CHIROPRACTIC TREATMENT FOR LEG PAIN RELIEF

Leg pain affects many people on a daily basis. Depending upon the cause and each individual’s situation, symptoms of leg pain may present in many different ways. For some, the pain begins in the lower back and travels down one or both legs. Some experience pain down the back of the legs (sciatica), some the front of the thighs, and others down the side of the legs. Others experience pain only below the knee or solely in the feet or toes.

The location of the pain varies depending on the anatomical or neurological structures involved. The pain may be described in a variety of ways, including sharp, dull, heavy, aching, burning, numbness, and/or tingling.

Chiropractic Care for Leg Pain in Overland Park

Typically, medical treatment of leg pain varies depending on the diagnosis. Pain control is usually the main focus of treatment and can include different pain medications, stretching, rehabilitation exercises, rest, and ice or heat therapy.

As chiropractors, our initial approach to dealing with leg pain will be to identify the root cause of your pain and work to correct the underlying cause. Once we have identified the underlying cause of your problem, we will work with you to correct the cause, not just mask the problem like pain medication does. If you do not find and correct the cause of your problem, it will continue to get worse and can lead to surgery.

Misalignments of the spinal bones (subluxations) put pressure on the nerves and can cause pain as well as interfere with the nervous system. As you know, your nervous system controls and coordinates everything in the body, and interference to the nervous system can affect organ function. Chiropractors use gentle and effective spinal adjustments to align your spine, which relieves the pressure from the nerves, allowing the nervous system to function, as it should, alleviating the leg pain.

Causes of Leg Pain

  • Muscle cramps
  • Dehydration
  • Side effects of medications
  • Nutritional deficiencies
  • Muscle strain or fatigue
  • Injury to joint, tendon, ligament, or muscle
  • Injury to ankles, hips, or knees
  • Poor biomechanics
  • Subluxations (spinal bone misalignments)
  • Disc problems and more

When there is dysfunction in the ankles, hips, or knees, the body is unable to move properly which causes the entire biomechanics of the spine to be altered resulting in increased spinal muscle tension and nerve compression. Subluxations (spinal bone misalignments), disc degeneration, a bulging/protruded disc (disc herniation), or even osteoarthritis can cause pain in the legs by compressing the spinal nerves, which start in the low back and travel down into the legs and feet. Spinal stenosis, the narrowing of the spinal cord canal, compresses the spinal cord or spinal nerve roots and can cause leg pain in a variety of different locations depending on where the nerve is compressed.
